There are many reasons people seek counseling and therapy. Some of the most common include improving communication and assertiveness skills, coping with anxiety and/or depression, anger and stress management, going through career changes, and facing life transitions and crisis. Dealing with grief, relationship issues in marriage, family and work, feeling stuck or overwhelmed, and being a care-giver for disabled or elderly family members are also stressors that can benefit from therapy. Sometimes people need new tools in their toolbox to stop their self-defeating patterns, whether their patterns or habits were formed in early childhood or became a coping-mechanism later in life that worked for awhile but are no longer viable. Many people choose therapy because they have discovered the benefits of heightened self-awareness and personal growth. The process of exploring our emotional and cognitive depths can be a very helpful and rewarding journey.

I have always been fascinated by how people change, learn, and grow. I believe that given the right context, such as a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment, people can make the changes they need to make to live a happier, more productive and positive life. Given the right tools, everyone has the capacity to engineer their life in a healthier way. I received my Master's Degree in Counseling from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been in private practice for over 22 years. I have been a member of the American Counseling Association since 1998 and a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy since 1995.
